Exhibition Opening: REMEMBERING HER TIME: The Art of Bernice Mitchell Tate (Herstory & Heritage) – May 17, 2012

Exhibition Opening: REMEMBERING HER TIME: The Art of Bernice Mitchell Tate (Herstory & Heritage)
    May 17, 2012 – August 17, 2012

The Avery Research Center will host “REMEMBERING HER TIME“, a  mixed media exhibition of sculptural collages, mixed media large canvases, authentic (Mitchell family) heirlooms and 19 quilts made by the artist’s mother, Mrs. Veronica Mitchell. The quilts, interwoven throughout the exhibition are juxtaposed with Tate’s works. Using a process she calls “fused continuity”, Tate provides  visual evidence of how material culture, in this instance, is transformed into contemporary mixed media works of art.

The exhibition will run from May 17, 2012 – August 17, 2012.  The opening reception will be May 17, 2012 at 7pm at the Avery Research Center, and it is free and open to the public.  Please RSVP only if attending to Savannah Frierson at 843-953-7609 by May 14, 2012.
