    The College of Charleston’s 1st National Diversity Conference is being held on October 11-12, 2014. Issues important in the field of civil rights for children, diversity in education, faculty recruitment and retention and much more will be covered in plenary and concurrent sessions.

    The Keynote Speaker will be Freeman A. Hrabowski, III, President, University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
    Freeman A. Hrabowski, III has served as president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County since 1992. His research and publications focus on science and math education with special emphasis on minority participation and performance. A child leader in the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Hrabowski marched with Martin Luther King, Jr, in the Children’s March of 1963 in Birmingham. In 2011, he was featured on CBS’s “60 Minutes”, attracting national attention for UMBC’s achievements in innovation and inclusive excellence. In 2012, Time Magazine named Dr. Hrabowski one of the top 100 Most Influential People in the World.
