Contributions and Donations

The Avery Research Center seeks to acquire documents and manuscripts that reveal important aspects of the African-American experience. The Avery Research Center collects photographs, letters, organizational records and minutes, newspapers, family albums, diaries, and records from religious institutions for its archives.

These materials are the essential sources for historical research and provide scholars, researchers, students, and the general public valuable information, details, and perspectives on the history of African-American communities in South Carolina and elsewhere.

By donating personal and organizational records and documents to the Avery Research Center, donors are assured their collections will be processed and maintained in a climate-controlled atmosphere that will preserve them for future use.

MUSEUM TOURS: The Avery Research Center is currently open for guided tours by appointment and self-guided tours on selected days.

OPEN HOUSE: The Avery Research Center currently offers self-guided tours on the second Wednesday of the month. Advance registration required.
