    Upcoming RSJI Lecture: “A Deeper Black: Race in America,” Ta-Nehisi Coates, Journalist and Author, TD Arena, October 18th, 6:30 pm

    Mark Your Calendars! The Avery Research Center is pleased to announce that the Race and Social Justice Initiative funded and founded by Google will host journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates for his presentation, “A Deeper Black: Race in America” on October 18th, 2016, at 6:30 pm at the College of Charleston’s TD Arena (please note venue change from the Sottile Theatre).

    Ta-Nehisi Coates is the author, most recently, of Between the World and Me, a No.1 New York Times bestseller and winner of the 2015 National Book Award. Also in 2015, Coates received a MacArthur Genius Grant Fellowship. Coates wrote Between the World and Me in the form of a letter to his teenage son, Samori, addressing what it means to be black in America. He is a national correspondent for the Atlantic and the journalist in residence at the School of Journalism at CUNY.
